I got the MOST amazing thing in the mail today! It’s a print copy of ltleflrt’s Feels Like Home, which is not only one of the greatest longfic AU’s I’ve ever read, but totally (and shamelessly) inspired Burn Down the Sky.

Now, I was prepared to freak out about just getting this book, which I did. But then I opened it to find not ONLY a handwritten note that made me tear up, but also my name mentioned in the acknowledgements section AND the fanmix playlist songs I made for the fic printed out. Right there. In the book.

Tell you what, I couldn’t have been happier if I’d been holding my own printed work in my hands.

Carrie, you are the best ever. You’ve made my whole MONTH and probably even my whole YEAR! Your story is incredible and it’s going to sit on my night stand probably forever. I’m not even lying.

JJ…. JJ… I really need Ianto/Kaidan fluffy good times. Something related to how they take their coffee? Pleeeeeeeeease??? D:

Okie dokie!

It bothers him immensely every morning after their first night together. At either of their homes, at the station, at the hospital, at his own office, Shepard knows. He holds out a cup of coffee; sometimes in a mug, sometimes a Styrofoam cup, sometimes in a take-out cup. Occasionally the coffee is too dark. The hospital’s is weak as hell, might as well drink water. The station’s newest fifteen pound bag consists of beans that taste over-roasted. Still, Shepard knows, and it bothers Kaidan every time. He knows how to fix Kaidan the perfect coffee in any situation.

A normal brew that tastes good is three packs of sugar. Just over a teaspoon from the drawer in Kaidan’s house. An even teaspoon from Shepard’s drawer. But the more places they go together and the more coffee they drink, Shepard somehow figures out the balance as if he was born with the knowledge. he knows when it needs to be sweeter and when he can hold back so a light brew doesn’t taste like sour sugar water.

And soon enough it becomes so embarrassing that Kaidan can’t even bring the one question he is dying to know the answer to more than anything else. Doesn’t know why he can’t just ask how Shepard takes his coffee. Shouldn’t he just have it inside him by instinct like Shepard does? It’s nearly a pride issue by this stage. After all, even though he hadn’t been totally aware of it at the time, he’s been in love with Shepard far longer than Shepard’s been in love with him. And yet, somehow, Shepard noticed him more, down to the coffee.

That’s when the experiments start. His first starting point is his certainty that, for the both of them, the preferred and best brew is at Shepard’s house. That’s a given. He perfected the art of drip coffee, and his coffee maker is probably the most expensive thing he’s ever bought with his own money. The second certainty is that Shepard doesn’t take cream in his coffee. Not many of them at the station do unless it’s non-dairy, because sometimes during long calls the coffee is still needed even if it has to sit until it’s colder than the air outside. Cream or milk would long have spoiled after hours of work. So, no cream, and never a drop of caffeine wasted.

Kaidan starts first with no sugar. Plain and dark. Shepard downs it in one go and says it’s like a kick in the balls. No good there.

A half teaspoon? Earns him a slight grimace, but that frustrates Kaidan even more when Shepard doesn’t move to correct the mistake. He simply raises the mug and wanders off. Dammit.

Full teaspoon. Less of a face, but still not just right. For fuck’s sake.

Time to go for broke. Kaidan scoops in two rounded teaspoons. Far sweeter than he’s ever taken himself, and imagines Shepard spitting the shit out immediately. However… today Shepard grins. “Coffee’s perfect today,” he says with warmth. “Did you buy a new brand?”

“Nah,” Kaidan answers with a secret smile at his partner’s hidden sweet tooth and the acknowledgement of his efforts. Then he taps his mug against Shepard’s in cheers before bending forward to kiss the lingering sweetness off of his lips.

Who is louder?
Ianto, by far. Kaidan often feels a little self-conscious when he makes noises during sex, and Ianto knows it embarrasses him, so he likes to put on a show.

Who is more experimental?
Kaidan. What he lacks in sound he makes up for in enthusiasm.

Who takes more risks?
Ianto. Kaidan is more of a polite lover. He always asks if Ianto likes this thing or that thing, while Ianto tends to get carried away and dives in. He’d never go for something he didn’t know was a sure green light, of course, but he’s much more willing to let Kaidan try kinks out on him.

Do they fuck or make love?
Both. A lot of both. Adrenaline rushes are for fucking, but lazy mornings are for making love.

Lights on or off?
Kaidan prefers the lights on, but Ianto couldn’t care less. It depends on how desperate they are at the time.

Who is more likely to be caught masturbating?
Ianto. He can’t keep quiet even when he’s doing that.

Who comes first?
Ianto, usually. He’s never really learned how to hold himself back. When he gets swept up in a sensation he rolls with it until the end.

Who is better at oral and who prefers it?
Kaidan gives the best head ever. Period. I will fight you. Ianto tries to pretend it’s not his favorite thing ever, but getting sucked off by Kaidan is his favorite thing ever.

Who is more submissive?
Ianto because he likes being experimented on more than Kaidan.

Who usually initiates things?
Whoever sees the other one first and gets their hands there.

Who is more sensitive?
Kaidan, by far. He’s ticklish, but when he’s turned on, his ticklish spots are highly sensitive erogenous zones.

Dean Teaching Cas to Play Poker

Short fic prompt from ltleflrt.

“Cas, I don’t get it.” Dean tosses his hand onto the small motel table with a frustrated look, lips pulled down into a grimace of irritation.

Cas carefully spreads his cards neatly in front of him, showing his latest hand, clearly the loser with only a pair of 3s to combat Dean’s flush. His brow furrows. “What do you not get, Dean? I thought you would be happier to win.”

Dean leans forward and rests his forearms on the table, his green eyes boring into Cas until the angel shifts in his chair – the one with the loose leg he never lets Sam or Dean sit in – and then settles for mimicking Dean’s stance stiffly. He never can get his shoulders to slouch the same way the hunter can.

“Damn straight I’m not happy about winning. I’m trying to figure out how in the hell the guy with the world’s best poker face never wins a single hand.”

Cas’s lips press together. “Is it not natural for a beginner to lose frequently?” He doesn’t like the way the words come out of his mouth because he knows that Dean can read the hesitation. He knows when Cas is trying extremely hard to avoid both telling the truth and telling a lie at the same time.

Dean leans forward further, almost across the middle of the table and Cas unconsciously mirrors the movement. “Cas. You’re an angel. There’s not a whole hell of a lot you can’t be an expert at in seconds with all that crap Metatron put in your brain.”

Cas knows he’s caught, but he doesn’t hate it. In fact, part of him likes to admit things to Dean. To see how he reacts. So, he says, “I prefer you to win. The pleasure you take in it… seeing that is better than the feeling I experience when I win.”

But the look that slowly spreads across Dean’s face; the hardened lines relaxing and he easy, crooked smile as he drops back into his chair, that’s what he likes best.

Burn Down the Sky Ch. 01 [A Mass Effect firefighter AU] – AO3

Sooo… I was talking with ltleflrt about Mass Effect AU’s recently, and she mentioned a mighty need for a firefighter AU. And since I dated a firefighter/EMT for a few years awhile back, I told her I’d take a stab at it.

‘Cause I mean, Kaidan and Shepard as firefighters?! In those uniforms?! *fans self* It’s practically a religious experience.

Rating: M (E later)
Pairing: various, but MShenko is the focus
Format: multi-chapter

Burn Down the Sky Ch. 01 [A Mass Effect firefighter AU] – AO3

In honor of ltleflrt finishing her amazing Mass Effect AU, Feels Like Home, I have made the grossest, sappiest companion fanmix ever!

There is an A Side for Shepard, and a B Side for Kaidan. What I’ve done is give Shepard and Kaidan both 1 song each from the same artist, for six different tracks apiece. As you can see, the whole thing is incredibly saccharine, but I couldn’t help myself. Her fic gave me lots of feels. If you haven’t read it yet, do yourself a favor and give it a look.
