Burn Down the Sky Ch. 04 [AO3]

Here’s an early release of chapter 4 of my MShenko firefighter AU! I’m going to be without internet starting on Saturday, so I’m trying to release what I can as early as I can since it may take a few days to get internet service started at my new place.

Ch. 04: The morning after

All of my works on AO3 are set to public, so you don’t need an account to view them.

Burn Down the Sky Ch. 04 [AO3]

HAPPY DAMN BIRTHDAY, SHEPARD!

I was thinking about what to get my custom M!Shep for his birthday, and decided the best gift I could ever give him was making out with Kaidan for the first time. 😀 I’m thoughtful like that. Fic and pic under the cut. Sorry for the length, mobile users! At least it’s SFW!

The date had gone well. Perfectly, even. And these days, Shepard considered “perfect” to mean that something hadn’t exploded in front of, or around them. It was all relative. But even he had to admit that he might not have even noticed an explosion in his distraction. Not a little one, at least. Because it was a date. An actual, real, total I’m-asking-you-on-a-date, date. And Kaidan had said yes.

Well, he’d actually said, “you serious, Commander?” And when Shepard was sure his expression had mirrored pure worry and embarrassment, Kaidan had put a hand on his arm and amended his previous comment to say, “yeah! Yes. Absolutely. I uh, thought you’d never ask, to be honest.” And that had made everything right again because Kaidan had come around to say exactly what Shepard had been predicting. Not so much the words, but  the warmth with a dash of fluster and more than a pinch of excitement.

Now here they were in a small cafe tucked into the Wards, knees bumping awkwardly under the table and both of them sipping coffee that neither of them could taste due to mutual engrossment in their own thoughts. The most profound of which being, how in the hell did we end up here? Literally, they’d ended up there because the only other safe bet for human food consumption was Apollo’s, and that was far too public for a first date consisting of Commander Shepard and Major Alenko. Neither of them cared to alert the press about being shier than teenagers when facing down the barrel of a first date.

What the fuck is so gourmet about this coffee? Shepard wondered.

Did I accidentally order an Americano, cause this shit tastes like water, Kaidan was thinking.

“We should go,” Shepard said suddenly, snapping Kaidan’s russet gaze to his cerulean stare.

The smile he was given in return to his statement, too loud and harsh in his own ears, was a wry twist of the lips from Kaidan. Quick and gone, leaving Shepard to breathe out slowly and focus entirely on his companion’s mouth. This time he thought that their knees bumped on purpose. “Yeah,” Kaidan said. “We should.”

Back to the Normandy. Shepard was counting his steps as they went, trailing Kaidan, otherwise he would have lost his cool well before it was socially acceptable to do so. Somewhere in the one hundreds, Kaidan’s arm swung back as he walked and their knuckles brushed. And with lightning reflexes that had saved their bacon a million times, the biotic didn’t waste the contact. Before his left foot had even stepped forward again, he’d hooked their pointer fingers together loosely. Shepard marveled at how he’d done it without even looking back. A small shock of static pinched the nerves at the tip of his finger and he wasn’t sure if it was the L2 buildup or his imagination. But it felt real as it climbed up his arm to settle somewhere in his chest. Maybe, just maybe, Kaidan was feeling exactly what he was. Fuck the Citadel for being so big.

The elevator doors closed behind them, and that was when Shepard realized, too late, that Kaidan was planning on taking point for this one.

But he upset the balance too quickly, and instead of a sexy turn, Shepard found himself slightly flung forward, hips bumping into Kaidan’s, causing the biotic to step back and destabilize his own equilibrium. That in turn had him sitting down hard on the handrail with a teeth-clacking grunt. Thrown to the mercy of gravity and fate. Just like they’d always been. Shepard chuckled. Kaidan swallowed hard, glanced up. His pupils were huge. Ah. Shepard shifted his knee, but not before noticing that the major was getting hard.

So he did the only thing that came to mind. He pressed himself forward into Kaidan’s unstable orbit and kissed him on his lips. Instantly he tasted the gourmet coffee finally with an earth, Kaidan-y finish. It took a minute to reorganize and rally after that. Kaidan’s head wasn’t tilted quite enough. Shepard’s mouth opened too fast. He gasped a little when the major’s hands touched his face, ice cold when he’d expected them to be warm. But the thing about expectations was that they sucked. Reality was better without them. It made it easier for Shepard to find the even ground. Heads at the right angle. Tongue slipping gently into Kaidan’s mouth until he was pulling away to suck in a breath of longing, not pulling away because it was too messy and awkward.

Getting to the Captain’s Cabin had been an adventure of hands unwilling to stop touching unfamiliar skin. Omni-tools made an appearance for the airlock, though the second Kaidan managed to unlock the door, Shepard keyed in the same code and it re-locked. After that minor frustration, Kaidan decided to let the commander do the commanding, though Shepard allowed the major to guide them forward and stumbling to the interior elevator.

By the time their destination was secure, uniform shirts were hopelessly wrinkled and hair was decidedly un-Alliance standard. Shepard craved for more, so much more, but they’d only had coffee, and Kaidan was still calling him “Commander.” They hadn’t reached that stage of the battle plan yet. So they sat on the leather sofa instead, no lights save the fish tank. Whiskey to chase away the last lingering strings of first date discomfort, and besides that, something for Shepard to focus on besides his hard on.

It could have been minutes or hours later when Kaidan broke the silence. “So, I was wondering. Why today of all days? I mean, we’ve known each other a long time and shore leave’s hardly half-over.”

“You were expecting me to wait until the end?”

This time the grin didn’t disappear. “You’re a last minute sort of guy, Shepard.”

He shrugged, more uncomfortable with a lie than with the truth, so he swallowed his pride and said, “I’m not usually sentimental, but it’s my birthday today, so I figured…” He trailed off while Kaidan stared, his eyebrows leaving their state of perpetual concern to one of unguarded surprise.

“You never told anyone about it?”

“No. Look, I don’t have any good memories of my birthday so I don’t like to make a thing of it, but this year… this time… I figured I might give it a try.” He didn’t know what he was going for with those words, but when he glanced back up at Kaidan, he realized that he’d said precisely what he should have.

This time the hand that touched his face was warm. Very warm. “Happy Birthday, Ianto.”

This is the most tame prompt I got, so I’m keeping it a tiiiiiiiiiny bit less explicit. ❤ But just a tiny bit.

Shepard was the worst fucking patient in the entire galaxy. Five minutes, five minutes, he’d been released from the hospital and in the prefab housing unit assigned to him and Kaidan. Five minutes and he was already up and trying to wander around.

“Sit your ass down,” Kaidan said sharply for the second time, crossing his arms over his chest.

From his unsteady wanderings by the kitchen, Shepard’s healing lips tipped up into a sly grin. “I’m just about bored enough to tell you to make me, Major.”

Despite the valiant effort, Shepard had known his lover long enough to catch the almost-imperceptible twitch of his lips into an almost-smile. “You already know I’m not above that,” he said. He moved forward and Shepard overstepped, Kaidan catching him the same as he’d done through all the weeks of PT, and guided him to the couch. He bent to his knees and slid forward between Shepard’s legs, batting away the scarred hand braced against a large wound over his ribs.

“Told you so,” Kaidan admonished in a softer tone. “You may be out of the hospital now, but you’re not ready to be walking by yourself. You’ve already saved the whole galaxy, so take a load off for awhile. If anyone’s earned it, it’s you. Lemme see that.” And as always, Shepard moved and Kaidan covered him, the commander opening up the wounded spot and the major pushing his shirt up to peek at the damage.

He hadn’t pulled any stitches and it hadn’t bled. The bandage was still clean. However, Kaidan still gingerly removed the tape around the pad while Shepard’s abs jumped with discomfort. Clean. No infection. All the same, Kaidan dug into his pocket and pulled out a small packet of medi-gel to soothe the ache, to with Shepard signed in appreciation before securing the bandage again. “You may be almost half cybernetic now, but you’re still soft where it matters,” Kaidan mused, wiping the remaining gel off on a tissue.

When he was done and glance up at the commander, the man was grinning down at him from ear to ear. “Is that so? I think we should test that theory.”

Kaidan caught the suggestive tone right away and rolled his eyes, but he didn’t back away. He rested his elbows on Shepard’s knees and pushed up to meet Shepard a little past midway for a kiss, as was also his instinct. Push a little further, go a little longer, take a little more of the burden. It’s not like Shepard didn’t know that he was doing it. And in anybody else he probably would have been furious, but this was Kaidan and John. Lots of rules simply fell away or failed to apply.

But they men they’d become were the men they were, and despite being legendary, they were very much human. All Kaidan needed to do to remember that was to take stock of Shepard’s healing wounds in the morning and evenings. And all Shepard had to do to remember was tangle his fingers into Kaidan’s staticky hair, bring them together just a little bit more. “Welcome me home properly,” he murmured against Kaidan’s full lips.

Kaidan slipped lower, slipping his thumbs into the waist of Shepard’s jeans, deftly flipping the button open. “Sure thing. Relax and let me show you how glad I am that you’re home.”

With a sly, pleased grin, Shepard’s fingers clenched tighter into Kaidan’s hair, his muscles tensing a bit in anticipation. Kaidan tugged gently on his jeans and boxers, Shepard lifting his hips as much as he could without pain to aid in their removal. He sighed as Kaidan’s stubble and warm breath ghosted over his inner thighs. Then it was all about the dance they’d practiced a million times. And Kaidan knew the steps better than nearly anyone. His tongue knew exactly how to stroke, and his mouth knew just the right amount of suction to bring Shepard close to the edge again and again until he was panting and practically begging. But Kaidan wasn’t into torture at this stage of the game. Digging his fingers into the commander’s ass and scooting him forward, he let go with one, final, deep drag of Shepard’s dick into his mouth before he felt the man above him tremble and tense with a hoarse cry before his release shot right down the back of Kaidan’s throat.

Once it was over, Kaidan soothed the trembling with his forehead on Shepard’s knee, waiting for the commander to catch his breath properly before fixing his clothes and smiling up at the man he thought he’d lost more times than he was willing to count. And he chuckled. “I guess we can consider that a toast to new beginnings.”

Shepard blinked and then a wide grin cracked his face as he laughed broadly. “You have a dirty mouth in more way than one.”

Burn Down the Sky Ch. 01 [A Mass Effect firefighter AU] – AO3

Sooo… I was talking with ltleflrt about Mass Effect AU’s recently, and she mentioned a mighty need for a firefighter AU. And since I dated a firefighter/EMT for a few years awhile back, I told her I’d take a stab at it.

‘Cause I mean, Kaidan and Shepard as firefighters?! In those uniforms?! *fans self* It’s practically a religious experience.

Burn Down the Sky Ch. 01 [A Mass Effect firefighter AU] – AO3

KPW request? mShenko, agonising levels of orgasm denial.

This prompt is all kinds of magical.

“Shit, Kaidan, I’m gonna co-” famous last words. Before he could finish his sentence or even his orgasm, he heard the crackle of biotics and then felt the tingling vise of restraints around his dick and balls, clamping down tightly and warding off his big finish with the sudden shock of pain that quickly faded to an aching need. His head fell back against the pillows and his jaw muscles clenched. “Kaidan, fuck, what…”

His eyes slammed shut as his over-sensitive skin was teased increasingly by his lover’s hot breath and lips. A gravelly voice spoke low right into his ear. “I’m not ready for it to be over just yet. This is the first time we’ve been able to do this without having to worry about another mission or saving the galaxy. We’ve got all night. And all day if it suits us.”

That made Shepard groan with a mixture of lust and frustration as he pushed himself up on his elbows and overbalanced Kaidan so he toppled onto his side and the biotic restraint faded away. Kaidan tipped his chin forward for a kiss, but Shepard was feeling a bit mean, so instead of giving his lover what he wanted, he shoved himself down on the mattress until his lips were even with Kaidan’s erection. The biotic’s hips thrust forward, but Shepard saw it coming, jerking his head back so that Kaidan’s effort only met air. “Relax and let me,” he said with a deep note of promise. Kaidan relaxed immediately and Shepard rewarded him by kissing the head of his cock before opening his mouth and throat, swallowing the biotic’s length fully and tortuously slow.

Kaidan curled forward convulsively into the fetal position, his top leg slipping up around Shepard’s back. The commander didn’t touch Kaidan any further than to move his mouth and tongue in strokes so calm and languid that it took Kaidan less than a minute to start trembling all over. It had never been like this before. Neither of them had ever had the leisure to focus completely and only on the pleasure and intensity that they could generate between them. And that’s why, when Kaidan’s hands clenched against Shepard’s skull and tangled in his hair, he didn’t mind at all that the commander saw it as a sign to swallow him deeply just one more time before slowly pulling back and releasing his cock right before almost, almost hitting the edge.

And nearly a half and hour later they were playing the same game over and over. They’d long lost count of how many times release had been just a hair’s breadth away. And they’d both learned quickly which touches and caresses soothed and which ones pushed them closer to what they both wanted. So here they were now, Shepard soaked in sweat and his skin flushed almost to burning. The sheets were damp with their strain and even the ceiling fan had given up hope of cooling him off. He thought his molars might crack with the pressure of clenching so tightly. And he knew, knew that he’d finally reached his absolute limit. Kaidan’s biotics were driving him wild enough that he thought he might go crazy if they kept on. So, he finally gave in. Clawed his fingers into the grooves of Kaidan’s shoulder blades and begged. “Kaidan, goddamn, please. I’ve got to. I’ve got to.”

A sigh of what might have been relief hissed through Kaidan’s teeth as he bent down and sealed their lips in a searing kiss, at the same time, angling his hips so that he could slide his lubed dick into Shepard’s well-primed entrance. Every muscle in Shepard’s body went taught and he arched his neck on a low growl, yanking helplessly at Kaidan to bring him as close as possible. And then began the dance they knew oh, so well. It wasn’t sensual and it wasn’t pretty by any stretch of the imagination. Kaidan pumped into Shepard hard and mercilessly, his moans growing to shouts and Shepard digging in and thrusting up as fiercely as he could. It was over in a flash. Both of them coming within seconds of each other with mirrored curses, Shepard’s back bowing up and Kaidan meeting him as he always did before pulling out as he came, messing the sheets and his lover’s tanned skin.

The next morning they woke to cold sheets and a sticky mess. Kaidan’s face was creased with marks from Shepard’s arm and being pressed down onto the pillow. Shepard himself woke with a dead arm and a light groan as they peeled apart. “Gross,” he said, his voice rough with sleep.

“Worth it,” Kaidan countered as he flopped onto his back and waited for his body to wake up enough to get him to the shower.

“Definitely,” Shepard said.
