Valid Reasons for Dean Being Angsty in 14×03

1) No memories of his possession.

2) Wearing douchy (in his opinion) clothes.

3) Weird mark on arm again.

4) Home becoming a hunter’s weigh station.

5) Sam with WAY more hair than last they saw each other.

6) Michael MIA.

7) Broke New Year’s resolution to not be a dick to Jack.

8) Bobby probably drank all the booze, ‘cause no one else was drinking booze this ep.

9) For once, can’t bring himself to hug Castiel because Dean Guilt ™.

Dean Fucking Winchester, if you hadn’t said yes to Michael there would have been TWO bad archangels buzzing around your universe instead of just one.  Take a sip of credit with your guilt pill.

No, sorry, that is not the Tried and True Dean Winchester Method.

HE’S BEING HONEST ABOUT HIS FEELINGS WHY CAN’T THE CHARACTER GROWTH PUT A TINY DENT IN HIS GUILT COMPLEX TOO??

You know, sometimes I honestly feel like that guilt is necessary. Dean sometimes feels like the kind of guy who eventually wouldn’t be able to get himself out of bed except for the guilt that makes him think his ledger needs balancing.

My theory on this one time that Dean and Castiel don’t hug upon reuniting, is Dean’s utter shame about what happened with Michael. He told Castiel it would be okay. Castiel was all, “the hell you say.” And not only was it NOT okay, it was SO MUCH LESS OKAY than even Dean was picturing.

Castiel was right. And Dean didn’t even get rid of Michael by himself. Now here he is, happy to be back with his family, but my GOD, look what he’s unleashed through his own vessel.

Frankly, knowing how Dean’s mind works, I wouldn’t feel worthy of that hug, either.

He can’t even say anything. Usually there’s a hug, and some worried anger, and then Dean or Castiel defending/apologizing for what happened and then some tried and true self-blame. Dean’s usually the first to go with that. But in that scene when he got home and came face to face with Jack and Castiel?

Not a word besides, “Cas.”

That right there reeks of Dean being so much higher on the guilt scale than we’ve seen him in years.
