hey everyone who is pretending to want queer rep. on spn, why don’t you stop focusing on the character who has explicitly stated multiple times that he is not attracted to men (DEAN) and start focusing on the man who has never said that he’s only interested in girls (SAM), has had two male crossroads demons, aka demons who take the form of someone attractive to the summoner (SAM), has had ambiguosly gay relationships with men (Brady) in college (SAM), who’s actor has said “guy or girl” in refering to their relationships (SAM), who was completely comfortable imagining himself in a relationship with a man (SAM).

NOTE: this is NOT to say that you can’t/shouldn’t ship dean with men but tbh if your definition of queer representation can only be fulfilled by dean shacking up with cas then you’re doing it wrong.

What I liked about this episode:

Castiel.

C.A.S.T.I.E.L.

As far as we’ve seen of his character development and motivations throughout the past seasons, this single episode is a freaking flood.

Castiel’s primary motivation? Love. And it’s doing both wonderful and terrible things to him.

He says, “I’m not going to let you, or anyone, hurt the people I love. Not again.”

He’ll do anything to protect the people he loves, especially after having been dead himself.

He’ll sacrifice people he deems unworthy of being in his life and a danger to the lives of the people he loves with barely a second thought, and more dangerously, he won’t be talked out of it, even by the people he loves. That’s phenomenal. Scary as hell if he goes too far, but really fascinating. And hopefully he remembers why he’s doing what he does, and doesn’t forget that he’s fighting to save the people he loves.

And Castiel is also motivated by fear. He got away from the angels and didn’t want to be a simple soldier anymore. But in this episode, he’s willing to be the angel he wanted to escape to save everyone. He doesn’t think the war can be stopped, but he’ll try. And while he’s at it, he’ll prepare. Because he knows how strong he is. And he knows how to fight a war.

I hope he doesn’t have to, but I can’t wait to see it if it has to happen.
